Doing business online across borderswith eHerkenning
On Thursday, June 6, the eIDAS cooperative network approved the notification of
eHerkenning. eHerkenning meets all European eIDAS requirements and is thus a European recognized login tool. A great milestone in the move towards using eHerkenning abroad, which will soon make doing cross-border business in the EU easier. September 2019 will see the final publication of this decision.

eIDAS
The notification is part of the eIDAS Regulation. The idea behind the eIDAS regulation is to make doing online business with government organizations across the border as easy and secure as doing it at home. It should be possible with your own national login tool such as eHerkenning and, in the future, DigiD. To make this possible, the countries of the European Union (EU) have made agreements and set requirements in the eIDAS regulation. Thus, with eIDAS, the government wants to encourage cross-border service provision and trade within Europe.

After the notification
The next step is now to make the Dutch eIDAS infrastructure suitable for outbound traffic. Like the notification, this also takes place in a public-private partnership. RVO is working on the eIDAS linkage point with other member states, RvIG is taking care of providing attributes from the BRP, Logius is doing the coordination and alignment and linkage with BSNk and market parties are taking care of the login resources and authentication.

Because member states have 12 months after official announcement to admit eHerkenning , it is agreed with a number of neighboring member states to join in the short term with which the intention is to have outbound traffic ready in early 2020 as well.
